THE REGAL, COWLEY ROAD, OXFORD

Stephen Woods, the head of the licensing team at M&G, has secured the Premises Licence for one of the biggest entertainment venues to open in Oxford.  The 1930’s Regal Cinema has lain empty for three years.  M&G were instructed by SolarView to secure a mixed use Premises Licence for a late night live music and recorded music venue, as well as use for a cinema, conference facilities and local amenity use.

The application was initially rejected by the Licensing Sub-Committee at Oxford City Council on 26 September 2006.

This decision was overturned on Appeal on 19 March 2007 after a two day hearing at Oxford Magistrates’ Court.  Despite vigorous opposition to the granting of a Premises Licence from both the police and local residents the Magistrates were satisfied that the application did meet the objectives of the Licensing Act 2003 and a licence was granted.
