MAKING A WILL AND TAX PLANNING

There are a number of reasons why it might be important that you should make a Will.  You may wish to avoid the intestacy rules and your assets passing to the wrong people on your death.  You may wish to appoint guardians for your children, or to give them specific instructions regarding your burial or cremation.  You may wish to minimize the inheritance tax paid by your family.

Please see our legal guides below for more information:

·        Why make a Will?

·        A Checklist for Making a Will

·        Inheritance Tax - Recent Changes

As well as helping clients reduce tax liabilities on death, we can also advise on effective life time tax planning such as gifts and the use of trusts.

From 5 December 2005 same sex couples will be able to enter into a Civil Partnership.  See our legal guide on Civil Partnerships for more detail.  From this date registered ‘civil partners’ will be treated in the same way as married couples for tax purposes.
